FILM -- V/H/S/2

The first V/H/S focused on guys in a creepy house, watching various discovered videos that are among a stack of VHS tapes.

Now, with V/H/S/2, an investigator with his girlfriend break into an abandoned house and find another collection of mysterious VHS tapes while looking for a missing student. These tapes feature stories of violent, gory and supernatural chaos. The first story is Phase 1 Clinical Trials, in which a man has a chip implanted in his eye to record everything he sees. Unfortunately for him, there is a horrible side effect! He begins seeing ghost everywhere that have something against him for some reason. This short isn’t bad. It gives you a couple of jump scares. Also, I thought this story had a great theme; one I definitely never heard of before, though I wanted more from it. It seemed like it just fell flat. I would have actually loved to see this one as a full film.

The second story, A Ride In The Park, documents a man who has a camera installed in his helmet. He’s enjoying a bike ride in the woods until he’s attacked by a zombie! From then on, we witness full on flesh chomping from a zombie point of view. It’s such a fun idea! I love how we witness a zombie epidemic from a zombie! This is another one that I would love to see as a full film. The next one, Safe Haven, starts off calm and then turns insanely deadly. It basically revolves around a group of journalist who investigate a cult leader. During the regular interview, the journalist sneak in hidden cameras to get the true story of the establishment. This video was short but the build up is pretty awesome. I know this one was many people’s favorite, but for me, I wasn’t completely in love with it. The less I leave out for this one, the more you’ll be surprised.

The final story is Alien Abduction Slumber Party! This one focuses on an older sister who tries to party with her friends and bang her boyfriend while her parents are away. But her little brother and his buddies have plenty of pranks to ruin her fun. There’s a camera that is strapped to the family’s adorable dog’s head. Apparently, these aliens decide to come along and rudely interrupt their fun and shenanigans. I really liked this one and thought it had a cool idea to it. I know plenty of people didn’t like it because they felt there wasn’t enough room for character development.

However, I completely feel opposite. I thought in the short time that this story was going on, we got to know the characters as a whole. They were getting attacked by aliens and trying to find safety…seems like a good enough plot to me. It was very entertaining and definitely spooky. The only thing I didn’t like about it which the other stories had as well was the shaky camera. On the other hand, there was so much going on that after a while I didn’t mind.

Overall, I recommend V/H/S/2. It’s a lot better than the first one. The stories seem more developed and creepy! I’m pretty sure there will be a third one and I think it will be a lot better than the first and the sequel.

4 out 5 queen skulls!

  1. Hey, I've also read others reviews on this and most people seem to dislike the alien abduction slumber party...I have to admit I loved it too. I think my least favorite was A ride in the park.
