This week, we're headed to Morocco!
Queen Goes International is a segment where I share horror films or series that I'm keeping a look out for. Whether it's cinema these spicy brown eyes have seen before, or cinema you and I must see before our dirt naps, here I express my God-given right to spread the horror love coming from all corners of the Earth. 💚
From director Talal Selhami comes Achoura. Although it's a creature feature, the title refers to the religious celebration in Morocco, where children gather around a bonfire and splash water on one another. However, there is a monster lurking that eats children. From what I gather, Achoura explores Moroccan urban legends that have previously been untouched in film.
I know it premiered April 12th, 2019 at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival; however, I missed it. I have yet to hear about US release date.
Synopsis: Four kids have fun at frightening one another and decide to go explore a condemned -probably haunted- house. One of them disappears in mysterious circumstances. The three survivors try to forget, until Samir reappears 25 years later.
