But if I find that I cannot terrify, I will try to horrify, and if I find that I cannot horrify, I'll go for the gross-out." —- Stephen King

I thought that was a fitting quote to add here, Zena. As for me, you know how much of a horror lover I am--vast, immensely huge, infinite, ad infinitum. When it comes to horror, you and I are two of a kind. :-) Wonderful article, by the way!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06688984365465983356noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159703269102243543.post-44861679644405257112012-07-10T17:13:38.368-04:002012-07-10T17:13:38.368-04:004 is my favourite. When I lived at home - a fair while ago - my mum justified my horror collection by saying that I liked the special effects. No. What I really liked is seeing people ripped in half, dismembered or crushed under the wheel of a lorry. That's still what I like now. At horror festivals I find myself laughing at parts that most other people find disgusting (most of Dream Home springs to mind). Yet I'm not a psychotic murderer. Strange, but true.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07693477187726525715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159703269102243543.post-50060711167843191342012-07-10T00:40:40.337-04:002012-07-10T00:40:40.337-04:00Great list! You added the "Watch Horror Films... Kee...Yay! You added the "Watch Horror Films... Keep America Strong" graphic to this post! Love it. :)

My favorite on the list is #3. I know we've had the common sense discussion a few times before, basically about how few people have it. It isn't exactly "common" is it? I'm not sure if common sense can be taught, although reminders don't hurt! I agree about how seeing something in a scary movie will make you think twice about the same situation in real life. Every horror movie involves a dumb decision, like someone who just has to check out that noise in the basement. :) Without dopey people, there wouldn't be much of a plot!

Horror movies are sometimes morality tales, aren't they? I heard a discussion on a podcast the other day about how fairy tales are usually morality tales, and I think the same thoughts apply to horror movies. Anyone with a social life, especially a sex life, is in trouble! That horror movie rule makes me wonder about the people who write these stories. I've always wondered if there was some bitterness or jealousy on their part towards people with active love lives! It would be interesting to see a horror movie that turns all these rules/cliches on their head. Maybe there is one I'm not aware of! Let me know if there is. I'm considering you an expert as The Real Queen of Horror. :)Justine’s Halloweenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04036212957533234176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159703269102243543.post-23011822364008021822012-07-09T08:15:51.243-04:002012-07-09T08:15:51.243-04:00great list... and i watch for the "escape&quo...great list... and i watch for the "escape" part i need to escape reality once in awhile...Jeremy [Retro]https://www.blogger.com/profile/09912258155288958827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159703269102243543.post-17592141722883388312012-07-09T01:22:51.887-04:002012-07-09T01:22:51.887-04:00Seriously though, the reason we watch horror is be...Seriously though, the reason we watch horror is because we now live in "the world of the invisible death". Everything is too safe and sanitised so we're kind of outcasts and on the fringe of society for watching this fictional stuff. A 150 years ago, even in the West, we would have seen much worse in real life all the time. In third world countries, people still see worse in real life everyday. Disease, wars, murders... people just dying anyway... it's not horror but a state of normality in some places. I think a lot of us watch horror to be mentality normal.Dr Bloodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17904860037603156527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159703269102243543.post-48289077991668899032012-07-08T22:58:07.127-04:002012-07-08T22:58:07.127-04:00I watch horror/slasher flicks for the rules; there...I watch horror/slasher flicks for the rules; there's always some sense of truth in those rules!Kaijinuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11481843593274086819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159703269102243543.post-3792355545466296872012-07-08T20:52:01.214-04:002012-07-08T20:52:01.214-04:00Ha!
