MegaCon Orlando 2017

Interested in my experience at MegaCon Orlando? Read on!

I’ll admit it. This was my very first year at MegaCon. I have known about it for a while, but, truth be told, since it wasn't a full horror convention I wasn't really interested. Isn't that silly? Well, I have to say MegaCon Orlando 2017 was a BLAST.

What is MegaCon 2017?
MegaCon Orlando is the South East’s largest comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, and gaming event, attracting over 100,000 fans each year across four big days.

Everyone is a fan of something, and MegaCon is a place to celebrate all things pop culture. Get an autograph or a photo with your favorite guest and get the inside scoop about your favorite movies & TV shows at our celebrity panels! Watch professional comic artists battle it out in our popular Sketch Duels, learn from our “How To” workshops, and take photos with your favorite costumed characters! It’s also a great place to buy a unique gift (or treat yourself!) with over 400,000 square feet of shopping madness.

I arrived at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando early afternoon, as some of you may know I enjoy my sleep! Although some lots said that they were full, I found a great parking space. Stepping out of the car and enduring the Florida heat, I saw plenty of familiar and unique costumes. I entered the building to a huge room with empty lines leading up to kiosks to purchase my $55.00 entry ticket.

Once I had my wristband that allowed me access to the wonders of this awesome convention, I saw crowds of people everywhere I turned. It was very refreshing witnessing fans of not just horror. Although, I'm not going to lie, I was especially excited when I saw people in horror t-shirts and costumes. There were a lot of artists at this convention and I can say with confidence there was plenty of original art. My first hour I spent checking out the artists and I was able to easily navigate through vendor alley. There was plenty of room for everyone and I could spend my time at different booths without feeling like I was taking up all the space.

Rather if your interest(s) were horror, anime, comics and so on, it was effortless finding where you belonged! The artists I ran into seemed very familiar with their craft. The vendors definitely knew how to cater to all fans such as anime fans, video game lovers, comic book enthusiasts, horror adorers and so on. It was interesting to see the diverse costumes as well, from Wonder Woman to Luffy. Watching Spiderman, Deadpool and Harley Quinn cosplayers form conga lines was definitely a delight to witness! There was even a lightsaber duel that broke out in the food court. I was able to check out a Stranger Things panel and even a Dr. Who panel.

Overall, I had a good time at MegaCon Orlando 2017. There were over 2,000 fans that gathered at one location to express their love and curiosity. Not only did I feel very welcomed at MegaCon, but I made connections with people who love what I love! Every conversation I encountered was far from small talk and definitely will leave a lasting memory.

If you have never attended MegaCon, I highly recommend it. There is something for everyone here!
